Job Details
The Medical Scribe assists physicians throughout their shift by performing clerical and information technology functions for the physician in a clinical setting. Primary responsibilities include the population of electronic health records, operation of electronic dictation systems to facilitate the flow of clinical documentation, and assisting with the gathering of information before and after a patient’s clinic visit or other care. The primary goal of a Medical Scribe is to increase the efficiency and the productivity of the physician they are working for.
Requirements
- Accurately and thoroughly document medical visits and procedures as they are being performed by the physician including: patient medical history, procedures and treatments performed by healthcare professionals, patient education, physician dictated diagnoses, prescriptions and instructions for self-care and follow-up and prepare referral letters as directed by physician.
- Dictation/faxing/phone calls and clerical tasks such as: daily letters and/or faxes to all physicians involved in a patient’s care with copies of pertinent records, may research contact information for referring physicians, coordinate referrals, prepare reports and make phone calls.
- Identify mistakes or inconsistencies in medical documentation to reduce errors. Ensure all clinical data, lab or other test results, the interpretation of the results by the physician are recorded accurately in the medical record. Proofread and edit all the physician’s medical documents for accuracy, spelling, punctuation and grammar. Alert physician when a chart is incomplete. Abide by all legal and ethical requirements for preparing medical documents and keeping patient information confidential.
- Collect, organize and catalog data for physician quality reporting and quality improvement efforts. Maintain system to track patient follow-up and compliance.
Qualifications
- The ability listen to complex medical information and summarize in a clear and concise fashion.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills
- Excellent time management and prioritization skills
- Detail oriented
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Excellent customer service and patient focus.
- Strong data entry skills.
- Travel required amongst different locations to support provider in (Nashville, Murfreesboro, Franklin & Clarksville).
Education Level: Some college preferred
Experience Years: 2+ years
Experience Industry: Healthcare preferred
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered.
